Has anyone tried slippery elm after esophagectomy?
|
I used to take slippery elm quite often before my op. I have taken it for years, before getting cancer to help with irritable bowel syndrome and food intolerances which gave me gut aches. Between diagnosis and op I was taking it very frequently as it was the only thing that eased the discomfort in my chest. It was far more effective than the Omeprazole or Nexium, giving long term relief in the early days, but only about 30 minutes by the time the op was done.
Since the op I have been afraid to take anything which hasn't come from the doctor unless it is also a conventional food. Have been a bit fearful of the new gut!
Would be grateful to hear if anyone is taking it post op as my gut is still hurting after eating, though not badly.
Does anyone know of any reason not to take it?
Hope someone can help. Thanks.
Sue

a non-milk protein drink alternative
|
My mother recently was diagnosed with cancer and she has since started chemotherapy. Over the past few weeks she has been struggling with eating/drinking. She has no appetite for solid foods and prefers liquids. I know that she needs as much protein as possible and tried to get her to drink some whey protein shakes. The problem is she hates any type of milk products. After searching online and in grocery stores for an alternative, I discovered a new drink from Gatorade called "Recover" it comes in a 16.9oz bottle and contains 16 grams of protein (just as much as a whey protein shake). I believe that it comes in 3 different flavors (Lemon Lime, Fruit Punch, and Mixed Berry). I just wanted to spread the word that there is a juice alternative to protein drinks for people who may not like the milk type of shakes.

Throat Cancer squamous cell carcinoma
|
My stepfather served in the army in USA and was in Vietnam in the 60s 4 years ago he could not speak after suffering many sore throats. Yes he did drink and smoke and came home from Vietnam with some kind of virus the doctors in USA never found out what. His wieght just fell off him and he was less then 5 stone they told his mother he'd not make the flight home frm Germany. He was a changed man when he got well with mood swings and he'd never was like it before then started to drink his moods away. He meet my mother at the age of 25 and settled in Spain for 30 years came home to England in 2003 with my mother she died of cancer 5 months after they arrived here. I promised to look after my step father and few cyears later he had throat cancer it was a hard time for me as i ooked after him 24/7 for over a year. Now he is in hospital and just been told he has got spots on the lungs and that he is dying. I've often read about agent orange and always thought that sounds like my father but its too late for him. Left him at hospital today so sorry for him cannot walk swoollen feet finding it hard to breath only trouble is i'm helpless nothing i can do for him and is family are all in America and in thier 80s. His throat cancer was squamous cell carcinoma so i guess its spread to the lungs.
Kind Regards Janet

Reliv Suppliment
|
I have recently heard from friends that there is a suppliment for cancer patients called Reliv.
It has been around for some time, and I wondered if there is anyone out there taking "Reliv NOW". It appears to be something like Ambrotose, only better.
Before trying itI would like to hear from others using it.
Thanks

Dairy formula and breast deveopment
|
http://english.ntdtv.com/ntdtv_en/ns_china/2010-08-11/028815 If China has discovered how hormones affect the growth of breast in children less than 4 years of age, then maybe we can start to corolate breast cancer too. I know from a research standpoint that they cannot isolate the source of the DNA in a breast tumor other then human, so unless you take someone off the dairy and watch the tumors go away like I have there is no way to corolate that fact.

Does it matter what you eat during treatment ?
|
With respect to Oncologists, they are trying to help people, it seems that not many Oncologists are educated in nutrition and what feeds C growth. It's understandable, since nutrition is barely touched upon in medical school curriculums.
Dr Colin Campbell of Cornell University is one of the premier nutrition researchers living today. He was a senior advisor to the American Cancer Research Institute, and served for almost 20 years on the panels of researchers who decide nutrition guidelines in this country. Beginning around 1980, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded a 20 year study led by Dr Campbell, and included Oxford University researchers, to find causes of disease and cancer.
The results of this study are published in the book 'The China Study'. What they found, to their surprise, was that animal protein fuels cancer growth and disease. This is after the cancer is already established in the body. When animal protein was ingested, tumor markers grew out of control. When the protein consumption was stopped, the tumor progression stopped. This protein includes all animal protein. Red meat, chicken, fish, and they found the most damaging protein to be casein, which is the protein found in dairy.
And to note: Dr Campbell grew up on a farm, his family were dairy farmers.
Recommend watching his informational videos that can be found on Youtube. He gives details of the 20 year study
Why wasn't this information reported to us in the media, or by the National Institutes of Health? As Dr Campbell explains, these results were not what the NIH was expecting. This goes directly against 'The American Diet' , along with the Beef and Dairy industries. Huge business.
Dr Campbell spells out the truth in 'The China Study'

Building on Faith
|
Cancer ministries are an increasing presence in churches around the country, as more patients and loved ones realize the benefits they provide. Participating in a cancer ministry - whether as a support group, with one-on-one counseling, or through a media presentation - reminds cancer patients that they are not alone.
